There were 10 birds on the short list which include the Blackbird, Blue Tit, Robin and Wren, all of which featured in the top 20 birds found on Britain’s farms, according the 2014 Big Farmland Bird Count.
The poll was the brainchild of David Lindo – AKA the Urban Birder – who has long been puzzled as to why we (along with Canada) are one of the very few countries not to have an official national bird.
