Muller UK & Ireland Group LLP (Müller) and Dairy Crest Group plc (Dairy Crest) are 2 of the 3 main dairy processors in the UK. Together they process around 3.5 billion litres of milk per year and account for nearly half of the fresh milk consumed in the UK.
NFU dairy board chairman Rob Harrison said: “The NFU is fully supportive of this move by two of the largest dairy processors in the UK. This is a positive step in building an increasingly sustainable dairy sector. I also hope it provides those farmer suppliers with greater stability going forward.
“We already know about the new senior management structure being put in place, including the creation of a new Agriculture Director at Müller, Lyndsay Chapman, who we know from her time at Dairy Crest. I’m hopeful that we will continue to build on our strong relationships with Muller and Dairy Crest as well as the farmer representatives.
“The NFU will arrange a meeting with the new management team early in the New Year.”
