Companies can now use invoices, orders or receipts to fulfil waste duty of care requirements in England and Wales. The change came into effect in April 2014.
The two environment departments consulted over Christmas on proposals and received 67 responses. See the NFU response here.
This change is in line with what the NFU requested during the consultation. This alternative method will help reduce administration costs due to time saved and reduced paperwork storage costs.
In their response Defra and the Welsh government said that their justification for the change are that several 'key stakeholders', including the Federation of Small Businesses and the National Farmers Union, agreed with the proposal and that the government committed to the idea as part of its ‘red-tape challenge’.
Edoc – which stands for Electronic Duty of Care – is still available to use for electronic WTN. Edoc is a free, modern, quick and easy alternative to having to complete WTNs by hand.
