The trip to Arla’s new £150m factory at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire was organised some time ago to find out just how the company operates and to get a better understanding of how they work the scale and technology of their investments.
NFU dairy board chairman Rob Harrison said: “Arla are the biggest processor in the UK and are farmer-owned and we both want our farmers to flourish in a successful dairy industry. We will be talking to them about how they are going to add value to British milk and cut costs to try and deliver a good milk price.”
Arla in the UK has the country’s largest milk pool, comprising of 3,200 dairy farmers around the country, supplying around 3.2 billion litres and a turnover of £2 billion. It is also the largest supplier of both butter and spreads and cheese in the country.
