We’ve written to all MEPs to encourage them to take part in the debate and to vote in favour of a motion which will take place on Thursday 12th May.
What’s it all about?
The Commission has previously rejected the option to extend the requirement for mandatory origin information to processed foods, but MEPs believe consumers want more.
This is especially the case for dairy, where we know consumers want to buy British milk, cheese, cream, butter and yoghurt, and want to know where the milk for them was produced.
However the current labels are confusing and don’t always offer the clarity required.
We know that some retailers already offer this information to the consumer, but not all parts of the supply chain do. We hope that the Commission engage with MEPs to progress the debate, and any resulting legislation is clear and accurate.
