Defra has confirmed a new case of AI on a game rearing unit near Pilling, Wyre District, Lancashire.
The chief veterinary officer Nigel Gibbons said H5N8 has been found on a unit containing approximately 1,000 pheasants. This case was proactively identified and traced as part of Defra's rigorous investigations following confirmation of the disease on January 24 in a flock of breeding pheasants also near Pilling.
A 3km Protection Zone (PZ) and 10km Surveillance Zone (SZ) have been implemented as per Defra protocol.
