NFU Graduate Trainee, Sam Ette, reports on the first day of the Pig & Poultry Fair at Stoneleigh and highlights what the NFU is doing for its poultry members:
NFU Deputy President Minette Batters and NFU Vice President Guy Smith were also in attendance on the stand to speak to members. Newly appointed Director General Terry Jones also joined members on the stand.
A new five year agreement to build and continue the success of the “Poultry Passport” industry programme was announced by British Poultry Training on the stand, with Minette Batters in attendance for the announcement. The four partners who make up the British Poultry Training; BPC, NFU, Poultec and Lantra, were all present for the announcement.
Major retailers Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Co-op had representatives on the stand to discuss the work they are doing to help the prospects of British poultry farmers and to field member questions.
Now based in Hall 1, the NFU was situated in the main poultry exhibition hall alongside major industry representatives.
Chief Poultry Adviser Gary Ford and NFU Poultry Board Chairman Duncan Priestner were available to discuss the work the NFU is doing on behalf of our members and address any member concerns.
“I was really impressed by the number of members that came onto our stand and the level of activity. The stand in its new location and with its new look graphics looked superb. I would like to thank colleagues that staffed the stand and particularly the support of the retailers. The investment by the various retailers demonstrates that we enjoy a very good working relationship with them – a relationship which in turn is good for our members’ business,” Gary Ford said.
“Finally, thank you to members that visited the stand and the support from Poultry Board members.”
