NFU Vice President Rachel Hallos joined leading Norfolk farmers at the Royal Norfolk Show to push for food and farming to be a key priority for all political parties at the general election.

Mrs Hallos, an upland farmer based in West Yorkshire, attended the Royal Norfolk Show for the first time on Wednesday 26 June to support NFU members and staff in fighting for a positive future for farming in the county.

She engaged with parliamentary candidates and spoke about the urgent need for the next government to help British farmers to deliver food security.

There was a busy round of media interviews as well, with journalists from BBC Radio Norfolk, ITV Anglia and Greatest Hits Radio also talking to Regional Director Zoe Leach and NFU Norfolk Council Representative Nick Deane.

Mrs Hallos said: “It has been a fantastic experience to be here at the Royal Norfolk Show, to meet our hard-working farming members and staff and to discuss the key farming issues in this county.

“It has also been great to meet members of the public and to hear so many positive comments from them about farmers and the wonderful work they do.

“The rural vote will be key in this general election and all political parties need to recognise this public support for farmers here in Norfolk and across Britain.”

The NFU team had a busy two days at the show. Events included Sugar Hour with NFU Sugar Board Chair Michael Sly, discussions on water and livestock issues and the chance to talk to NFU advisers Richard Wordsworth and Claire Robinson about farm funding and grants, in particular the Sustainable Farming Incentive expanded offer.

On day two, County Adviser Flora Archer had the honour of representing Norfolk's farming community when she was introduced to Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Our joint NFU/NFU Mutual stand was named reserve winner in the Norwich Union Insurance Society Challenge Cup category, presented for the most effective and well laid out display by an exhibitor in the services industry.
