Impacts of Flooding & Drought
The impacts of flooding and drought on farmers mental health as an evidence gap that needs filling.
Whilst there is evidence in other countries that floods and droughts have an impact on the mental health of the agricultural community, there is a gap in knowledge for the UK. The NFU is promoting this UKHSA (UK Health Security Agency) survey on flooding and drought impacts on mental health of farmers in England because the results will fill this important evidence gap and add weight to the NFU’s lobbying on flooding and water resources. The survey, available here, takes 15-20 minutes, is anonymous (unless you decide otherwise) and is open until 28 February 2025

Tractors Into School (24 Feb to 7 March)
The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society are excited to be launching their 8th year of Tractors into Schools. This very popular initiative partners farmers with schools in Lincolnshire and builds closer links between the two communities while showing the important role the tractor plays in bringing food to our tables.
Not all children are able to have the experience of being on a farm, and depending on demographics, visiting a farm can be a difficult task for schools. This is one reason why it is so important to link schools to farms. Farmers taking tractors into schools is imperative and helps children to gain a better understanding of what agriculture is all about. Farming can link with a variety of different subjects and topics across the curriculum, such as:
- Plants, animals and forces in science
- Measuring and data in maths
- Learning where food comes from, cooking and healthy eating in design technology.
Agriculture can be dovetailed into many areas of the curriculum and introduces children to an industry that provides a wealth of career opportunities throughout the supply chain.
Farmers across the county are kindly giving up their time and signing up to support schools. If you’re a Lincolnshire farmer who’s interested in getting involved in the scheme, email: [email protected] or call 01522 585509
Last year Tractors into Schools was very popular and saw 39 schools involved, reaching 3,642 students, educating on the importance of food and farming.
