The award, which is presented annually at NFU Conference recognises grassroots members who go ‘above and beyond’ in their contribution to the NFU and local farming industry.
George, who farms 2,000 acres with sheep, beef and arable enterprises near Blandford, was nominated for his contribution to several key policy areas, in particular around bovine TB.
He is passionate about education and frequently hosts local schoolchildren on farm; he is currently in the process of having a farm kitchen classroom built, to boost the farm’s educational offering.
Enthusiasm is infectious
George has also appeared in several popular clips for the NFU’s social media channels, walking through wild-flower margins, providing accessible explanations and highlighting the fantastic work that his farm business is doing for the environment.
The judges said: “George’s passion for education, the agricultural sector and the environment is second to none, his enthusiasm is infectious and this has been shown time and time and again in the many media appearances he has made on behalf of the organisation.
An eternally positive voice
“An eternally positive voice, not scared to question and hold to account, he will ask the difficult questions in a constructive manor, holding policy makers to account and working hard, alongside the NFU, to safeguard the future of the farming sector which he so clearly loves.”
