A number of members have expressed an interest in the possibility of offering jobs to Afghan citizens resettling in the UK but have found it difficult to get information about the process.
Operation Warm Welcome
Operation Warm Welcome is an initiative that sees government departments, including the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), working alongside employers and other organisations to support those Afghan citizens who have resettled in the UK to find work, permanent housing and integrate into UK life.
Find out the latest on the scheme on Operation Warm Welcome: progress update from the government.
Maximising support
The DWP is looking to maximise support to help citizens to find employment, by removing barriers where appropriate and running support sessions on skills, CV writing and work experience.
Finding a match
Once notified of vacancies the DWP will look to establish whether they have anyone who may be a match, but the decision as to whether anyone put forward would be suitable for the role remains with the employer.
If a job is offered, the employer must also carry out the right to work checks that are required when taking on any new employee.
Connect with the DWP
Members who are looking to recruit may be able to link into this initiative by connecting with the DWP, where they can then offer opportunities for training or jobs for Afghan citizens resettling in the UK. Employers can contact DWP by emailing [email protected].
What to consider
Please consider the following details to start the conversation with DWP contacts:
- The job title and job description
- Number of roles available
- Locations
- An outline of the application process required
- Level of English language requirement
- If a driving license is required
- If accommodation is included
Advertise vacancies
We are already encouraging members to engage with the DWP when looking to recruit to benefit from the help and support available at local Jobcentres and so that any vacancies can be advertised on the government’s Find a Job Service.
