Two members have been nominated from each county to take part in Future Leaders and they will participate in a variety of events, including farm tours, training, networking and workshop sessions.
Wiltshire county adviser Katie Davies, who is co-ordinating Future Leaders said: “We understand that some members may have an interest in a future role with the NFU but aren’t currently ready to take that next step or are not sure what would be involved, what to expect and how to engage.
“This programme will help answer those questions and ensure that they are prepared to take that step in the future, should they wish.”
An exciting programme
The programme began with 10 of the group meeting at Yeo Valley HQ, Somerset. The morning started with some icebreaker games, followed by an overview of the NFU’s structure and policy work, as well as an overview of the role of a county adviser.
Regional board chair Robyn Munt then talked to the group about her NFU career so far, before the group split to undertake workshops.
After lunch, they had a farm tour, learned about the business and visited the dairy.
Katie said: “We are now planning our next event in March, before a two-day conference in May. This is an exciting new programme and we look forward to working with the members involved.”
