To mark 2024’s National Tree Week, which runs from 23 November – 1 December we are offering free tree packs for members in four counties of the Midlands.
Each species has been specially selected by the Woodland Trust to suit a variety of farmland in the counties covered by the offer. This offer is for our farmer and grower members.
What's on offer?
There are 50 packs up for grabs, per county each containing:
- 50 x trees
- 50 x 1.2m guards
- 50 x 1.2m stakes
The tree species selected are suitable for the geographic areas. The following species have been identified for each county:
- Worcestershire: Oak, Hornbeam, Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Hazel
- Nottinghamshire: Crab Apple, Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Field Maple, Hawthorn
- Lincolnshire: Oak, Small-Leaved Lime, Wild Cherry, Silver Birch, Field Maple
- Telford & Wrekin: Sessile Oak, Small-leaved Lime, Wild Cherry, Field Maple, Hazel
Claiming your free pack
To apply for your free pack from the NFU please use our online form and choose the venue you wish to collect your pack from. You will receive a confirmation email and a reminder from the NFU prior to collection. You must be a farmer & grower member.
NFU Midlands and Woodland Trust staff will be at the following locations helping to load up your trees and stakes:
- Shropshire, 26 Nov, 10am-2pm at Buckatree Farm Cottage, Wrekin, Telford TF6 5AL
- Nottinghamshire, 28 Nov, 10am-3pm at Stud Farm, Newark-on-Trent NG22 9HB
- Worcestershire, 4 Dec, 10am-2pm at Woodside Farm, Worcester Road, Holt Heath, Worcester WR6 6NH
- South Lincs, 4 Dec, 10am-3pm at Vine House Farm Shop, Main Road, Deeping St Nicholas, Spalding PE11 3DG
- North Lincs, 5 Dec, 10am-4pm at Uncle Henry’s, Grayingham Grange Farm, Grayingham, Gainsborough DN21 4JD
Herefordshire:
Members can access trees via the Woodland Trust’s separate sister scheme for the South West. You can apply for up to two tree packs containing specimens ideal for creating a thorny hedgerow or a copse and ones that are suited for a wet field corner and livestock browsing.
You can collect your packs between 11am – 3pm on Tuesday, 17 December at Townsend Farm, HR9 7JE
How to participate:
Visit the Woodland Trust website at woodlandtrust.org.uk.
Fill out the online application form, providing basic information about your interest in the free trees programme. Select the tree packs and protection that best suit your farm’s needs and choose a collection date/site across the South West.
You will receive a confirmation email and a reminder from the Woodland Trust a couple of days before your chosen event with the final details for collection.

Five reasons to get involved
- Trees have an important role in increasing biodiversity, contributing to flood prevention and water quality improvement.
- Planting of a variety of native trees (all UK and Ireland sourced and grown) will help diversify our tree population, increasing its resilience to pests and diseases in the future.
- The trees are free and when picking them up you can speak to an expert about planting trees on your farm.
- Planting trees in the right places will help lock up even more carbon on farms, delivering on the NFU’s Net Zero ambition for 2040.
- You'll be helping the NFU raise awareness of the role of farming as part of the solution to climate change.
