Lincolnshire Show: Glorious sunshine for busy two days

The sun shone on a bustling NFU stand at the Lincolnshire Show 2024 for the two-day event.

Right next to the action on the main ring at the Lincolnshire Showground, the NFU stand was full of members who took the chance to meet up with friends, weigh in on the key issues impacting farming in the county and enjoy delicious local food and drink.

The marquee was dedicated in its displays and catering to showcase the amazing array of produce grown in Lincolnshire.

NFU President Tom Bradshaw was the county's guest on a busy first day as he addressed gathered members in the marquee and answered questions from a lengthy list of national and regional news outlets.

There were also discussions focusing on the severe weather and resulting flooding Lincolnshire has suffered in the past year.

NFU Lincolnshire county chair, Henry Moreton, was pleased with how proceedings went.

"It's been a fantastic turnout and we've had a really busy tent all day," said Henry on the first day.

"There was a very successful breakfast event, hosted by Tom, on flooding and members got excellent information from ADA about how flood funding is being used by internal drainage boards.

"Coming to a show like this is so important for farmers' mental health; you can just get away from the farm for a bit, have a laugh, realise you're not on your own and we're all in the same boat."

NFU Lincolnshire county adviser, Rhonda Thompson, was proud of the team effort.

"It's been another wonderful Lincolnshire Show and it has been thrilled to host Tom Bradshaw at our stand," she said.

"My show highlight was the team effort in getting the stand together; a huge thank you to everyone who helped and to those who donated amazing flowers and other items for our displays.

"People come to the NFU stand to hear from our speakers and take part in the discussion groups, but the big thing they get is coming into an environment where they can sit down and talk to other farmers and people facing similar issues, and come out feeling much better."

Influx of visitors

Those thoughts were shared by Holland (Lincs) county adviser, Gabriella Gregory.

"It's been absolutely fabulous," she said.

"From 8am on the first day we had an influx of members, guests and visitors and it stayed like that throughout.

"We've met lots of members, had some really good conversations and opened some doors too."
