The National Trust’s constitution requires the Council to hold an election every six years to determine the 18 organisations which will have the right to appoint someone as a member of the Council – these organisations are known as ‘appointing bodies’.
National Trust members are asked to decide which bodies can appoint representatives to the Trust’s Council, the body that holds the Trust’s Chair, Deputy Chair and Trustees (the governing body) to account.
The final decision about which organisations will be appointing bodies will be decided by National Trust members via a ballot in autumn 2024. The outcome of the ballot will be announced at the trust's AGM (Annual General Meeting) in 2024.
