The NFU Sugar Board is the democratically-elected representative of UK sugar beet growers, elected by growers, for growers.
Led by its elected chair, Michael Sly MBE, it determines the strategic direction of NFU Sugar, importantly providing the grower mandate that allows the negotiation team to agree the annual sugar beet contract with British Sugar.
Who can stand for election?
All current sugar beet growers are eligible to stand for election to the board; they don't need to be a member of the NFU.
In addition, professional farm managers who manage sugar beet contracts are also eligible to stand. NFU Sugar relies upon the diverse skills and expertise of its board members to deliver on behalf of beet growers.
What does the role involve?
As well as the chance to influence strategic direction, board members can expect to benefit from professional development opportunities including visits to conferences, events, trials, workshops,
and more.
How does the process work?
Four seats are now up for election for a three-year term starting in March 2025.
Three of the positions are for a three-year term (March 2025 to February 2028)
One position is for a two-year term (March 2025 to February 2027), to fill a position left vacant last year.
Candidates standing for election as board members must be nominated by at least five growers.
Ready to nominate?
Those wishing to stand can download and fill in our nomination form.
Completed nomination forms must be scanned and emailed to [email protected] before 5pm on Friday 25 October.
If there are more than four nominees, then an election will be triggered with all growers invited to vote via letter or email.
The outcome of the election should be known by Christmas.
