NFU Nottinghamshire is holding a farm safety and rural crime event for members on 1 May at 9am.

Is your workplace safe?

Would HSE think it was safe enough?

Hear about HSE attitude and expectations with practical sessions of what they look for on 'onsite' visits.

The day will start with registration, tea and coffee and an introduction from Tom Hickingbottom, Partner, Wilkin Chapman Solicitors.

  • Welcome and farm safety overview (including latest HSE figures): Phil Smith Risk Management Services Sales Consultant 
  • Working Lunch - Farm yard stations : Rural police team, Mental health and welfare awareness station, Fire and Rescue Service 
  • Chemical storage and fire safety – Phil Smith and Notts Fire Service - An overview of correct chemical storage to ensure it complies with current laws. Information on how to prepare for potential farm fires, both chemical and field fires
  • Trailer weights, towing and speeds – Notts Rural Crime Team - Guidance on legal trailer weights and speeds, and information on towing rules and restrictions. This session will also cover how to secure the load safely
  • Overhead power cables – Phil Smith (risk management sales consultant NFU mutual) - How to prevent machinery coming into contact with overhead power cables, and what to do if you hit or see someone hit one
  • Machinery safety – Phil Smith - Using machinery safely, including PTO shafts and awareness of other people who may be on site
  • Farm security & preventing thefts – Notts Rural Crime Team - An update from the Rural Crime Unit on how to prevent farm thefts during the harvest season, including the use of Smart Water
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing – FCN - An overview of the importance of mental health and wellbeing. Supporting family & friends and recognising where support is needed - FCN Services
  • Gary Godden, Nottinghamshire Police & Crime Commissioner - Tackling Rural Crime in the county / overview of stats, overview of the commissioner’s strategy and funding models, Farmer roundtable to address rural crime issues
