APR reform – NFU President says PM in 'listening' mode following meeting

NFU President Tom Bradshaw met privately with the Prime Minister where the changes to IHT were high on the agenda.

While the details of private meetings must remain confidential, we can say that the impact of changes to inheritance taxes on farms was discussed, alongside a number of other topics including food security, trade and farming and growing in the UK more widely.

Following the meeting, Tom said: “I welcome the Prime Minister asking to hear directly about farmers’ concerns, and I am grateful to him for taking the time to do so. I hope we can work together towards a resolution on this issue.”

During Tom's video update, filmed after his meeting, he said the PM was "very much in listening mode", adding that "we've been able to present our side of the discussion around what the changes to APR and BPR are going to mean for your family and your future".

"The PM engaged with us and made the time to hear our story and I really hope this marks a moment where we can move forwards and get to an outcome that works for everyone."
