This week the Shadow Farming Minister Daniel Zeichner MP visited NFU Dairy Board Vice Chair Paul Tompkins’ farm in the Vale of York along with NFU Deputy President Tom Bradshaw and NFU Livestock Board Vice Chair David Barton.
The visit covered a wide variety of issues pertinent to dairy and livestock farmers including the clean air strategy, bovine TB, investment in infrastructure, and export opportunities.
Reflecting on the visit, NFU Deputy President Tom Bradshaw said: “It was great to welcome the Shadow Farming Minister to farm to hear directly from dairy and livestock producers about what policies they need from a future government.
“Farmers need to have confidence in and the support of government if they are to invest in their businesses to improve welfare, environmental and productivity outcomes which of course includes disease eradication.
“As we look ahead to the general election, all parties need to listen and engage with farmers to ensure policy is developed alongside industry. We look forward to continuing to engage with Labour and all other political parties in the coming months.”
