The impacts of flooding and drought on farmer mental health is an evidence gap which needs filling. Take the UK Health Security Agency’s survey by 28 February to share your experiences.

While there is evidence from other countries that floods and droughts have an impact on the mental health of the agricultural community, there is a gap in knowledge for the UK.

The NFU is supporting a UKHSA (Health Security Agency) survey on the impacts of flooding and drought on the mental health of farmers and farm workers in England.

For many farmers the past two years have been very difficult.

Last year’s harvest, the second worst on record, was a stark reminder of farming’s vulnerability to water-related extremes.

Take the survey

Agriculture and its people are on the frontline of climate impacts.

The NFU believes that the results from this survey will fill an important evidence gap and support our work on flooding and water resources.

The survey takes around 15-20 minutes to complete and is anonymous, unless you decide otherwise. Deadline: 28 February 2025.

The UKHSA intends that this work will help develop and improve support to affected communities, and that the knowledge, experience and insight from farmers will improve the resilience and management of future flood and drought incidents.

The UKHSA offers its thanks in advance for your support.

NFU support

The NFU has put together a directory of national and regional charities and organisations who can support you.

Anyone can reach a point when pressures become too much and if that happens it is important to reach out for help.
