The LAMMA Show is the UK’s largest agricultural machinery exhibition and once again showcases innovation across the industry. Farming journalist Jane Carley looks at just a few of the highlights.

Hosting more than 600 exhibitors from every sector of the industry, the LAMMA Show, which takes place at the NEC on 15-16 January offers something for everyone.

There’s also a working demo area and the ‘Farmers Guardian Live’ discussion zone exploring current topics in the industry, helping visitors get more out of their day.

An extensive Innovation Awards scheme at the show highlights some of the most exciting developments.

Machine of the Year award

Tractors, handlers and combines always draw the crowds and this year the achievements of their manufacturers will be recognised with the Machine of the Year award.

Gold medallist is Fendt for its new 600 Series Vario tractor. The top model Fendt 620 Profi+ on show offers 209hp from its four-cylinder, five-litre AGCO Power CORE50 engine that also features a DynamicPerformance system which can provide an additional
15hp regardless of forward speed.

Designed to span a gap in traditional tractor ranges, the Fendt 600 Vario is pitched as a compact all-rounder that can be used for towing heavy loads, carrying front tanks or operating heavy mounted implements with lift capacity up to 9.8 tonnes. Top speed is 50 km/h at 1,250 rpm and it offers 950 Nm of torque from 1,200 rpm to 1,600 rpm.

JCB Agriculture will launch a range of new telehandlers and wheeled loaders and has been awarded a silver medal for its TM280 Compact Telescopic Wheel Loader, which has a choice of 109hp JCB engine and hydrostatic drive, or in ‘S’ designation, 130hp JCB engine and DualTech VT hydro-mechanical drive.

Its compact size is achieved using a new chassis design that houses the powertrain as low as possible, while still delivering 2.75 tonne lift capacity and 4.8m lift height.

Winning a bronze medal is Case IH for its high output AF10 Combine, completing a new series for the company and offering grain tank capacity of 20,000 litres and a new 762mm diameter AFXL rotor, the longest in the industry at 3.67m.
